Within Earshot, 2023
The work Within Earshot is designed to require interaction with the viewer for its full expression. Large ceramic pots are placed on the floor and slightly tilted - they have a wooden base at the bottom that allows them to be moved or rotated.
At first glance, these simple objects do not reveal anything specific, though they may subtly suggest that they are meant to be rotated and interacted with. A wooden cover halfway down the object's depth prevents a view into its interior. When an individual (or a group) gently initiates the rotation of the objects by hand, a sound emanates from within.
The work was on display at the exhibition - a showcase of contemporary kinetic ceramics - πr kvadrat, razstava sodobne kinetične keramike at Layerjeva hiša gallery (Kranj, Slovenia).
This work was also mentioned in the article The Kinetic Nature of Ceramics, published in Ceramics Now and written by the wonderful Kristina Rutar.
